On behalf of the Municipality of North Grenville, we join Canadians across the country in recognizing National Firefighter Memorial Day in Canada. Today, we pay tribute to the courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our communities.
Firefighters, many of whom are volunteers, comprise part of the backbone of a strong public safety network in our towns and cities, alongside other first responders. Their unwavering courage, resilience, and dedication are relied upon every day to keep our residents and businesses safe. It is with a heavy hearts that we remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty. They will never be forgotten.
As we reflect on the importance of this day, we extend our deepest gratitude to the families of these fallen heroes. Their loved ones' sacrifice is shared by the communities they protected. In their honour, flags at the Municipal Centre will be flown at half-mast to recognize their contributions.
North Grenville is proud of its dedicated team of volunteer firefighters who selflessly serve our community. Their commitment, often balancing work, family, and volunteerism is a testament to their service and heroism.
In the words of Fire Chief John Okum,
"As firefighters, we accept the risks that come with the job, but we also know that it comes with a deep sense of duty and responsibility. Today, we remember our fallen colleagues whose bravery and commitment to protecting others will forever remain an inspiration to us all."
Let us continue to honour their legacy by supporting the work of our firefighters and first responders, who put themselves on the front lines every day to keep us safe.
