Grenville 1 OPP Detachment Board

The Grenville 1 OPP Detachment Board is a civilian body that oversees police services in the communities of North Grenville and Merrickville-Wolford. Police services are provided by the Grenville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The Board is responsible for setting the overall objectives and priorities for police services in their respective Municipalities in consultation with the Detachment Commander. The Board is also responsible for appointing a Detachment Commander and monitoring their performance, as well as overseeing the service contract between the Municipalities and the OPP, receiving monthly performance and crime statistics, updates on prevention initiatives and regular preparation of a business plan.
The Grenville 1 OPP Detachment Board represents the interests of North Grenville and Merrickville-Wolford toward effective and efficient police services and are accountable to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ontario Civilian Police Commissioner.
What is a Detachment Board?
Under the Police Services Act, a municipality has the choice to establish their own police service or enter into a contract with a local OPP Detachment to undertake police services within the community. In North Grenville, as well as our partners in Merrickville-Wolford, police services are provided by the Grenville Detachment of the OPP located in Kemptville.
The Community Safety and Policing Act received Royal Assent on April 1, 2024 and restructured how police services are administered when received from the OPP. The Act effectively reformed the former North Grenville Police Services Board. The Grenville OPP Detachment Board is now a joint board between North Grenville and our partners in Merrickville-Wolford.
